Island 10,000mtrs Record for Louise Perrio

Louise closed out her 2011 track season in style by reducing her Island 10,000mtr record to 36:33.7 at the club championships. In less than ideal conditions and often alone in the wind she stuck to her task and got a well deserved result.

Island Games Double Gold for Louise Perrio

Louise retained titles in the distance double - taking the 5,000mtrs in 17:29.77 and the 10,000mtrs in 37:22.34 - both relatively comfortable victories.

Team Cycling Golds for Sam Herridge

Sam's job at the Island Games was essentially being a pace setter and break chaser for Ann Bowditch. In the Town Centre Criterium she did this to perfection and strung the bunch out in the closing laps and took Ann Bowditch to the front to unleash her winning sprint.  Sam rolled over the line an exhausted 7th and with Karina Bowie 8th the Guernsey girls picked up team Gold.

Sam repeated the job in the road race but with the hillier parcours not being her forte, her role was less pivitol.  Ann Bowditch picked up bronze , Karina Bowie was 5th and Sam 7th - the team collected silver medal behind Jersey.

Racing in very difficult conditions, with a strong wind whipping up a rough swim in Portelet, Jon came out of the water in a pack of three with Ben Creasey and Phil Le Pelley a little way down on first lady Gail King and swim exit leader Peter Druckes.

Climbing Plienmont Hill Creasey came past, but Jon bided his time and moved ahead half way rounft he 8mile bike loop. Heading into T2 he had a 30 second advantage - that he then doubled on the 2 mile run. Creasey hung onto 2nd with Dave Crosland rounding out the podium despite using a standard road bike.

Sam Herridge loves the Jersey Criterium Experience

Competing with the Guernsey team of Ann Bowditch and Karina Bowie, Sam showed the progress she has made on the bike this spring as she was able to ride with main selection group which contained some of the UK's best girls including the Motorpoint team and British Cirtcuit race champion Hannah Barnes.  The race was won by an impressive breakaway by Motorpoint's Lucy Garner.

Sam Herridge Rubis Jersey Criterium 2011

Afterwards an exhausted Sam said it was the most fun she'd had on a bike.  The action continued the next day with a road race where Sam felt the efforts of the previous day but gave team leader Ann Bowditch a lead out up the penultimate climb of the day before swinging off the front, her job done.

PB / Island 3000mtrs Record for Perrio

Running a controlled race at Footes Lane, St Peter Port, Louise reduced the Island record to 9:52.93secs

Perrio leads Guernsey girls to victory

Stamping her authority on the race halfway round the first lap of the Inter Insular Cross Country held on the Stonecrusher course at L'Ancresse common, Louise went clear of Jersey's Jo Garrod to take a very comfortable win. Backed up by Nikki Neale, Martine Scholes and Sarah Mercier, Guernsey won the ladies race.  There's a photo album ono the club's Flickr site here.

The men did equally well with Steve Dawes winning and Guernsey finishing 8 men in the top 10 to extend a very long winning streak that I helped start back in the early 90's.   Good to see fellow triathlete and Island games 2007 Guernsey team member Dave Holmes making his Jersey debut.

Jon Greenfield takes first Guernsey Tri Club Duathlon of year (and beats F1 star Jenson Button)

Overcoming a viscious west coast wind and a strong field Jon delivered a gun to tape victory underlining the progress he has made this winter both on the bike and on the run. Leaving a quality chase group of Luke Walton, Ian Scholes, Matt Dorrian and Jenson Button behind on the first run, he then extended a 10 second lead at the end of the first 2 mile run to nearer 45 seconds by the end of the 12 mile bike, it gave him a decent cushion to close out the win with a controlled second run.  Dorrian came through on the run to take 2nd place from Scholes in 3rd, Walton 4th and Button 5th.

Not your usual 10k race

Afgan 10km 28 November 2010 Nathan Gosling Royal Navy

Just to show that that our boys out in Afganistan don't let a war get in the way of their training - or racing - they had a 10k race within one of the bases and one of these men won it. ( It wasn't the one in the combat fatigues. )

Nathan Gosling (left of the runners) won the Gurkha-organised 10km run around Camp Bastion. His prize was a khukuri, a curved knife synonymous with the Nepalese soldiers. With a difficult climate to deal with and strong winds he won in 35:48 with an impressive 2 minute margin over the second place runner.

BMC Nike Grand Prix - massive PB for Perrio

The break-through performance of the year as Louise sliced a whopping 23 seconds off of her PB, going under the 17:00 min barrier for the first time and destroying her own Island Record. The time was alos inside the Guernsey Commonwealth Games selection standard but unfortunately the time comes too late for her to be added to the team.   The race was won by Charlotte Purdue (15:23.4) from Freya Murray, whilst Louise finished 7th in 16:40.7
